J.M.J. Until yesterday, I had never seen in toto the film, "A Man for All Seasons," which depicts the events leading up to the martyrdom of Saint Thomas More (1477-1535).
What a hero!
He laid down his life so that he could fully follow Jesus Christ.
No shortcuts . . . no pining for human respect . . .no compromise with evil.
Let us make our own this Prayer penned by this great Saint.
"Give
me, good Lord, a longing to be with Thee; not for the avoiding of the calamities
of this wicked world, nor so much for the avoiding of the pains of purgatory,
nor the pains of Hell neither, nor so much for the attaining of the joys of
Heaven in respect of mine own commodity, as even for a very love of Thee."
Mary, Queen of Martyrs, pray for us.
