J.M.J. Yesterday, on the Solemnity of the Epiphany, Pope Francis announced the names of those who will become Cardinals on Saturday, February 14th.

A name on the list jumped off the page at me:

"Mons. Luigi De Magistris, Arcivescovo titolare di Nova, Pro-Penitenziere Maggiore emerito."

Archbishop De Magistris, who is nearly eighty-nine years old, is a prayerful, humble and learned priest. He has long served the Church--and well.

I remember his appearance in the Sacristy of Saint Peter's Basilica each morning to prepare to offer Holy Mass, which he did reverently and reflectively.

On this the Memorial of the great Saint John Neumann (1811-1860), who was a Redemptorist priest and the fourth Bishop of Philadelphia, may we ask Our Lord, Our Lady, Saint Joseph and Saint John Neumann to embrace and guide the soon-to-be Luigi Cardinal De Magistris.
