J.M.J. Today is not only Thursday of the First Week of Advent but it is also the Memorial of Saint John Damascene, Priest and Doctor, who was the last of the Greek Fathers of the Church.

In Mariology, Volume I (Milwaukee: The Bruce Publishing Company, 1955), edited by the Reverend Juniper B. Carol, O.F.M., the Reverends Aidan Carr, O.F.M. Conv. and Germain Williams, O.F.M. Conv., wrote in "Mary's Immaculate Conception": "The outstanding figure of this epoch (The Eighth Century) may properly be considered St. John Damascene (c. 675-749), whose writings on the prerogatives of Mary mark him as a vigorous exponent of her Immaculate Conception. If he did not expressly teach the doctrine, nevertheless his whole treatment of Mariology points the way to it, and indeed presupposes it as an essential element in the composite of her graces."

Special thanks to Mrs. Heather Karrow and Miss Emily Hoffmann for their appearance today on "Morning Star." We hope that they will join us again soon.
