Thus when the early Christian says that the Church, like Mary, is ever a virgin, and can never fall into Eve's unfaithfulness, he is in fact saying neither more nor less than we say today with our doctrine of the Church's infallibility; for it is undoubtedly true that within the Church as such, Christ's true and unsullied teaching, confided to her care, can never be lost.
