The Oldest Known Prayer to Our Lady: Thursday, February 18, 2016


J.M.J. The Sub Tuum Praesidium ("We fly to Thy Patronage") dates to around 300 A.D. This is the oldest Prayer to Mary of which we are aware. Let us memorize it!


We fly to Thy Patronage,
O Holy Mother of God;
Despise not our prayers
in our necessities,
but ever deliver us
from all dangers,
O Glorious and Blessed Virgin.
