J.M.J. Saint Charles Borromeo (1538-1584), whose liturgical Memorial is today, is remembered for, among other virtues, humility. He saw himself as God saw him. The Cardinal knew that any virtues he possessed were inspired by God and not chiefly of his own making. Saint Charles aligned himself with Our Lady's sentiment in her Magnificat: "The Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is His Name." (Saint Luke 1:49)
Nike had a t-shirt in honor of N.B.A. standout Kyrie Irving that proclaimed: "Clutch like Kyrie." Each of us should have written on his heart, "Humble like Mary." Saint Charles Borromeo certainly did--and does now in Heaven.

"Serve Mary, whom you love; for then you truly love her, if you endeavor to imitate her whom you love."
